Types of Thermal Insulation Adhesives

Thermal Insulation Adhesive is specifically manufactured and enhanced for various types of thermal insulation applications. Different adhesives are used for different purposes, such as air duct insulation, chilled water pipe insulation, or machinery insulation. Insulation adhesives can be categorized into 3 types.

White adhesive, known in Thailand as latex adhesive, primarily consists of Polyvinyl Acetate or PVA adhesive. It has a milky white color, thick consistency, high viscosity, and is water-based. It is non-flammable both in liquid form and when dry.

White adhesive is suitable for fiberglass insulation (MicroFiber / SCG) or mineral wool (ROCKWOOL) to ensure tight adhesion between the insulation and duct surface. Being water-based, it is non-flammable in both liquid and dry states. Once the insulation is attached, it cannot be removed and reapplied. Water can be added to reduce viscosity.

Yellow adhesive, or yellow rubber adhesive, primarily consists of Neoprene Rubber, Chloroprene, or CR (Polychloroprene Rubber). It is synthesized from Chloroprene Monomer with an organized molecular structure, resulting in high tensile strength.

CR rubber contains Cl (chlorine) atoms, which make the adhesive fire-resistant, flame-retardant, and self-extinguishing.

Yellow adhesive is suitable for PE foam insulation (Miron / Thermobreak / Trocellen) and black rubber foam (Aeroflex / Armaflex / Maxflex / K-flex). With high solid content, it can be used for PU foam, PIR, and PID boards.

Yellow thermal insulation adhesive provides strong adhesion, has liquid consistency, strong odor, high tensile strength, and is fire-resistant with self-extinguishing properties (depending on brand).

Black rubber adhesive is made from Neoprene/CR rubber, similar to yellow adhesive, but has a black color and thicker consistency. It offers better adhesion than yellow adhesive, with high heat resistance, moisture resistance, and self-extinguishing properties when dry.

Black rubber adhesive is ideal for air conditioning pipe insulation (Aeroflex / Maxflex /Armaflex /K-flex) and PE foam insulation (Miron / Thermobreak / Trocellen). It provides better adhesion and higher heat resistance than yellow adhesive.

Black adhesive or black rubber adhesive is used for black rubber foam or PE foam insulation. It offers strong adhesion, has an odor, high tensile strength, is fire-resistant, heat-resistant, and self-extinguishing. It has superior properties compared to yellow adhesive but comes at a higher price.
