SCG Glass Wool Insulation for Air Conditioning Systems
Duct insulation work
Large air conditioning systems consisting of chillers and Air Handling Units (AHU) require galvanized ductwork to distribute cool air to desired points. To maintain the temperature of the cool air, we must insulate the ducts to prevent cold air from escaping. This also helps reduce noise transmission. Typically, glass wool insulation with a density of 24 kg/m³ and thickness of 1″ (25 mm) or 2″ (50 mm) is used, depending on requirements and installation space.

Installation Guidelines
- Duct surfaces must be clean, dry, free of rust, oil residue, and leaks. Test for leaks at all points before insulating.
- Cut insulation to specified size, trimming 50 mm from the edges while leaving the facing material as a flap to overlap insulation joints.
- Wrap insulation around the duct with tight joints. Overlap the flap onto the other end of the insulation and use aluminum foil tape (2.5″ or wider) to seal all insulation joints.
- For ducts wider than 24″, use fasteners to secure insulation to the duct surface, attaching them to the bottom of the duct at intervals not exceeding 18″.
- Inspect the facing material. If leaks, abrasions, or tears are found, cover with aluminum foil tape to prevent moisture and vapor accumulation in the insulation.
